The Solar Club
TM
The Solar Club™ is a dynamic electricity rate plan designed to maximize savings for Alberta residents with solar panels. By seamlessly switching between a high rate ($0.30/kWh) and a low rate ($0.0877/kWh) based on seasonal solar production, it optimizes energy costs and enhances the value of your solar investment.
The Solar Club™ operates on a smart “buy low, sell high” strategy, tailored to boost savings for Alberta solar panel owners.
Buy Low: In fall and winter, when your home relies more on grid electricity than solar production, the plan switches to a low rate of $0.0877/kWh, minimizing the cost of purchased power.
Sell High: In spring and summer, when your solar panels generate surplus electricity, the plan shifts to a high rate of $0.30/kWh, maximizing the value of the excess energy you sell back to the grid.
The chart below illustrates how the Solar Club™ optimizes electricity rates based on your home’s seasonal energy patterns. It highlights the use of the high rate ($0.30/kWh) during spring and summer, when your home is a net exporter of solar energy, and the low rate ($0.0877/kWh) in fall and winter, when your home is a net importer of grid electricity:
